Sure, Schaub is very talented, has a lot of potential, and probably
will become a very good QB in the NFL. But he hasn't actually proven
anything yet, so I think it's a mistake to annoint him as the starting
QB. Make him compete in training camp and preseason, and if he earned
it, annoint him the starter on opening day.

I think of the AJ Feeley example, where he showed flashes of
brilliance as a backup in Philly, and Miami gave him a huge deal. But
he didn't really pan out. Even Favre, who was a highly touted backup
from Atlanta, was not automaticaly given the starting job when he was
acquired.

well Carr is gone. who is left to compete ? Could they have afforded to
keep Carr and sign Schaub?
